Weiss leverages her position in the SDC to equip herself with Myrtenaster, a rapier than stores and uses numerous types of elemental dust. Accepted and loved, Weiss found the courage to reject her parents and their expectations of who she should be. She initially struggled with her need to appear perfect in front of others, but grew close to her team-especially her partner Ruby-and learned to trust them with more of herself. To get away from her broken family, Weiss chose to attend the Hunter academy of the foreign nation of Vale instead of her native Atlas. Jacques’ selfishness and disinterest in his wife and children as anything beyond status symbols drove Weiss’ mother to alcoholism and her older sister away. Kept isolated for most of her childhood, Weiss was raised to believe that she had to be perfect, but learned that even perfection wouldn’t merit acknowledgement from her father. Weiss Schnee is the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company, and daughter of Jacques Schnee, perhaps the richest man on Remnant. Those who can afford to enhance their weapons with elemental Dust, most often in the form of Dust-enhanced bullets. Most Hunters also equip themselves with a unique multi-purpose weapon. Aura can also fuel a person’s Semblance, if they’ve discovered it, a unique personal ability. Hunters make use of Aura, a manifestation of the soul that acts like a protective forcefield and source of physical empowerment. These gallant souls defend the people of Remnant from the creatures of Grimm, criminals, and any other threat.

Grimm come in many forms-the lupine Beowolves, the avian Nevermore, and the monstrous Apathy, to name a few-but these mindless monsters are ubiquitously drawn to negative emotions, death and destruction following in their wake. Although these races have warred in the past, and prejudice still exists between them, people of both races live in fear of the Creatures of Grimm. The World of Remnant is home to humans and the Faunus, a therianthrope race whose members each sport an animal trait.
